One Month Left: The First NEDSO Season Is Taking Shape

There’s something powerful about standing at a ballfield before the season begins.

The field is quiet.

The fences are still.

The rosters are not yet complete.

But you can feel it coming.

That’s where we are right now with the New England Deaf Softball Organization (NEDSO).

With one month remaining before registration closes, the foundation of the 2026 season is starting to take shape. Players are signing up. Regional leaders are stepping forward. Conversations are happening across New England about building teams and representing local communities.

But the work is not finished yet.

This league will only become real when the rosters are filled.

The Race to Build Each Team

NEDSO was designed around a simple but powerful idea: regional pride.

Instead of random teams, the league is built around New England territories. Each region represents its local Deaf community, bringing together players who live, work, and compete in the same areas.

For the first season, the league is structured around eight regions:

  • Western Mass / Vermont

  • New Hampshire / Maine

  • North Shore / Boston

  • Central Massachusetts

  • South Shore / Rhode Island

  • Northern Connecticut

  • Central Connecticut

  • Southern Connecticut

Each team needs 12 players to complete its roster.

Some regions have already started recruiting players and building momentum. Others are still waiting for the first few athletes to step forward.

Every new registration moves the league one step closer to becoming reality.

Leadership Across New England

One of the most exciting parts of building NEDSO has been seeing regional leaders emerge.

Captains and recruiters have already stepped forward to help organize teams, connect with players, and grow the league in their local communities. These leaders are helping turn an idea into something real.

But leadership is not limited to captains.

Every player who reaches out to a friend, shares the registration link, or encourages someone to join is helping build the foundation of the league.

This is how movements start, one person inviting another.

More Than Just Softball

NEDSO is about competition, but it is also about community.

For many Deaf athletes in New England, opportunities to compete together are limited. Players often travel long distances to find games, tournaments, or teams.

NEDSO changes that.

The goal is to create a regional Deaf softball league where players can:

  • Compete regularly

  • Represent their hometowns

  • Build rivalries across New England

  • Strengthen the Deaf sports community

And most importantly, bring Deaf athletes back onto the field together.

The Season Ahead

The 2026 season will feature regional matchups, structured competition, and a postseason tournament known as The Gauntlet.

Every game will matter.

Every region will compete for pride.

And every team will have the opportunity to prove themselves on the field.

But before any of that can happen, the rosters must be completed.

That’s where we are now.

One Month to Go

With 30 days remaining before registration closes, there is still time for players across New England to join the league and help build their regional teams.

If you play softball, know someone who does, or want to help grow Deaf athletics in New England, now is the moment to step forward.

Recruit your teammates.

Fill your roster.

Represent your region.

Because once the rosters are set, the next chapter begins.

And all roads will lead to The Gauntlet.
