Commissioner’s Update: NEDSO 2026 Structure & Commitment Phase
- Feb 28
- 2 min read
The New England Deaf Softball Organization is entering its next phase.
As planning continues for the 2026 season, the focus is simple:
Commitment before format.
Before finalizing season length, divisional structure, roster limits, or playoff configuration, confirmed player numbers must be secured. Decisions will not be built on assumptions. They will be built on verified registration.
NEDSO 2026 will operate under two tracks: Competitive League and Development League.
Competitive League
The Competitive League is designed for players seeking a structured, performance-driven environment.
This track includes:
• Official standings
• Regional team identity
• Structured divisions
• Playoffs
• Umpired games
• Defined player classifications
Hometown Free Agent (HFA) and Legacy Free Agent (LFA) designations apply only to the Competitive League.
To confirm a roster position, a $75 non-refundable deposit is required. The deposit applies toward the full seasonal fee and secures placement eligibility.
The final payment deadline is April 10. Failure to complete payment by that date may result in forfeited roster spots.
This process is not designed as pressure — it is accountability. Accurate planning requires accurate numbers.
Development League
The Development League focuses on growth, access, and community participation.
This track includes:
• Mixed participation (men and women)
• No official standings
• No official umpires
• Emphasis on skill development and community building
Hearing players may participate in the Development League without roster limits.
Players who are interested solely in Development League participation are welcome to register accordingly. Competitive League regulations do not apply to this track.
Hearing Player Participation
Hearing players are welcome in NEDSO 2026.
In the Development League, there are no roster limits.
In the Competitive League, roster limits may apply. Final hearing player caps will be determined after:
• Deposit numbers are confirmed
• Teams are formed
• Feedback from officially registered players is reviewed
This approach protects competitive balance, Deaf-first integrity, and long-term sustainability.
Player Classifications (Competitive League)
HFA — Hometown Free Agents
• Current or former New England residents
• Must represent their hometown or designated regional territory
• No limit per team
LFA — Legacy Free Agents
• Players who have never resided in New England
• Must be Deaf, Hard of Hearing, CODA, or SODA
• Must be recruited by a New England team
• Roster limits apply
These standards protect regional identity while allowing controlled expansion.
Season Structure Overview
The Competitive League will include a combination of:
• Local Division play — building rivalries and reducing travel
• Cross-Division play — improving competitive balance and strengthening playoff seeding
Final structure depends entirely on confirmed team numbers.
Once deposit thresholds are met, officially registered players will vote on specific season format options.
Structure follows commitment.
What Happens Next
The immediate step is simple:
Submit the $75 Competitive League deposit.
Once commitment numbers are confirmed, NEDSO will finalize:
• Teams
• Divisions
• Season length
• Roster limits
• Playoff configuration
This system is built intentionally.
Not rushed.
Not reactionary.
Not speculative.
NEDSO 2026 will be built on verified participation — and built to last.
Let’s build it the right way.
